Expert 1-on-1 A-Level History tutoring from qualified UK tutors for AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge 9489. Sharpen source analysis, build persuasive essay argument, and secure your coursework NEA and a Grade A or A*.
Tutors understand the subject deeply and teach at the required level.
Specifications, past papers and assessment requirements guide lesson planning.
Each tutor completes our review and teaching-assessment process.
We consider the board, qualification, level and learning needs.
Great History grades come from two things done well: rigorous analysis of sources and interpretations, and disciplined, argument-led essay writing. Our tutors build both, matched precisely to your board's options and mark scheme.
Step 1
We start with recent marks, confidence blockers, and the exact exam board so sessions feel personal from lesson one.
Step 2
Tutors connect concepts to examiner language, worked examples, and the habits that turn knowledge into marks.
Step 3
Parents see what changed after each session: topics covered, next steps, and the grade trajectory we are building toward.
Most A-Level history students know more than their grades show. Marks are lost in the writing, not the knowledge.
Identify the exact demand, the dates, and what a top-band answer must do before writing a word.
One clear line of argument, planned in two minutes, sustained through every paragraph.
Every fact selected to support a point, never decoration.
Weigh factors against each other and reach a judgement the essay actually defends.
Timed practice: Full essays and plans written under exam timing, marked against the board's mark scheme, with feedback turned into one clear fix for the next essay.
What we cover
Break the specification into manageable topics, then build confidence from the first concept to exam-ready application.
Change and continuity across a long period — for example Tudor England, the Age of the Crusades, or Russia 1855–1964. Students learn to argue across decades and weigh long-term against short-term factors.
Detailed study of a shorter, pivotal period such as the Weimar and Nazi Germany, the French Revolution, or the English Civil War, requiring precise supporting evidence and nuanced judgement.
Evaluating primary sources for their value to a historian using provenance, tone, purpose, and context — the core skill of the AQA Paper 1 and Edexcel source questions.
Comparing and assessing the views of historians and schools of thought, explaining why interpretations differ and reaching a substantiated judgement on which is most convincing.
Tracing a theme — such as civil rights, popular protest, or the changing nature of warfare — over around 100 years, connecting events into a coherent thematic argument.
Structuring analytical essays with a clear line of argument, balanced paragraphs, embedded evidence, and a decisive, well-supported conclusion that directly answers the question.
The independently-researched coursework essay of around 3,500–4,500 words. We guide question framing, source selection, historiography, and referencing to meet each board's marking criteria.
Full AS and A Level cover for Cambridge 9489, taught around the options your child's school has chosen.
Source work on the chosen option, trained separately from essay writing, because the two fail in different ways.
Two-part essay questions. Core content turned into arguments, not just notes.
Comparing historians' views and reaching a substantiated judgement.
Two essays on the chosen depth study. Precise evidence, nuanced judgement, timed writing.

Top-band source answers depend on the historian's own contextual knowledge, not surface features of the source. We drill provenance, tone, and purpose alongside precise period knowledge, so students judge a source's value the way examiners reward.
Many able students write everything they know instead of building an argument. We teach question deconstruction, thesis-led planning, and paragraph-level judgement so every essay stays analytical and directly answers what was asked.
The independent investigation carries 20 percent of the A-Level and trips students up on question scope and historiography. We help frame a viable enquiry, select and evaluate contrasting historians, and structure the essay to hit every assessment objective.
Family trust
A clear tutor match, a plan built around the real paper, and progress parents can follow from week to week.
We shortlist tutors who know the curriculum, teach clearly, and can coach the exact exam habits that lift marks.

The Historical Investigation is an independently-researched essay of roughly 3,500–4,500 words, worth 20 percent of the A-Level. It is marked by your school against your board's criteria and moderated externally. We help with framing the enquiry question, using and evaluating historians, and structuring the argument — while keeping the work genuinely your own.
All three combine a breadth study, a depth study, interpretations or source work, and a coursework unit, but the balance and options differ. AQA (7042) uses two exams plus the NEA; Edexcel (9HI0) and OCR (H505) each use three exams plus coursework. Cambridge International (9489) has no coursework: AS is a Document question and an Outline study, and the full A Level adds an Interpretations question and a Depth study. We match you with a tutor who teaches your exact board and chosen options.
The highest marks come from judging a source's value to a historian using provenance, tone, and purpose combined with your own contextual knowledge — not from summarising the content. We practise this with real past-paper sources and the specific mark-scheme language your board rewards.
We cover the popular options across AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge 9489, including Tudor England, Stuart Britain, the French Revolution, Russia 1855–1964, Weimar and Nazi Germany, the Cold War, and civil rights in the USA. Tell us your two or three chosen options and we will match a specialist for those exact periods.
Very. History is a facilitating subject respected for essay-writing, source analysis, and independent research — skills prized in Law, PPE, English, and the humanities. The NEA in particular is excellent preparation for university-level extended writing and referencing.
Yes. We cover AS and A Level 9489, including the Document question, the Interpretations question and the Depth study, matched to the options your child's school follows. Tell us the options and we match a specialist.
Yes, this is the most common pattern we see. The tutor works on question reading, argument planning, evidence selection and evaluation, using your child's own essays and past-paper questions marked against the board's mark scheme.
Yes. We support question framing, source selection, historiography and structure, and give feedback on drafts. The research and writing stays the student's own work, as the boards require.
