Online IB Physics Tutors for HL and SL Students

IB Physics is not difficult only because of the amount of content. Students often lose marks when they need to choose the right physical model, connect equations, complete multi-step calculations, interpret unfamiliar data or explain their reasoning clearly under exam conditions. We match one-to-one tutors to Standard Level or Higher Level, Paper 1A, Paper 1B, Paper 2, and ethical Scientific Investigation guidance.

  • Matched to IB Physics HL and IB Physics SL
  • One-to-one lessons focused on clear understanding and exam practice
  • Progress updates shaped around the student's priorities

What Is Limiting the Student's IB Physics Grade?

Doing more questions is not always the answer. The first step is identifying why marks are being lost.

Paper 1

Paper 1A and Paper 1B Preparation

Paper 1 requires both speed and understanding. The aim is not simply to complete more questions — tutors can identify recurring mistakes, correct the underlying reasoning and then ask the student to apply the same idea to a different problem.

  • Multiple-choice accuracy
  • Selecting appropriate equations
  • Unit conversions
  • Significant figures
  • Graphs and tables
  • Experimental data
  • Uncertainty
  • Relationships between variables
  • Using the Physics data booklet
  • Applying familiar concepts in unfamiliar situations
  • Working efficiently under timed conditions
Paper 2

Multi-Step Physics and Clear Reasoning

A tutor can review a student's recent answer, identify where the reasoning failed, and then practise the same skill through a fresh IB-style question.

  • Short-answer questions
  • Extended problems
  • Multi-stage calculations
  • Algebraic rearrangement
  • Diagrams and physical models
  • Explaining relationships
  • Data-based questions
  • Justifying assumptions
  • Linking equations to physical meaning
  • Clear working
  • Time management
Academic integrity

Ethical Support for the IB Physics Scientific Investigation

The Scientific Investigation is the student's own assessed research work. Tutors can provide academic guidance while keeping the investigation independent.

  • Refining a feasible research question
  • Identifying variables
  • Planning a suitable method
  • Measurement strategy
  • Considering uncertainty
  • Organising raw and processed data
  • Graph selection
  • Mathematical analysis
  • Interpreting results
  • Discussing limitations
  • Evaluating methodology
  • Developing realistic improvements
  • Understanding teacher feedback

Combo Tutors does not write, rewrite, fabricate data or complete assessed Scientific Investigation work for students. The investigation, data and final academic decisions must remain the student's own.

Standard Level

SL tutoring can focus on securing the core physical concepts, improving calculations, strengthening Paper 1 and Paper 2 performance and supporting the Scientific Investigation.

Higher Level

HL students work at greater mathematical and conceptual depth and encounter more demanding applications. HL tutoring can focus on difficult multi-step problems, advanced topics and connections across different parts of the course.

Tutor matching

How We Match the Right IB Physics Tutor

A good tutor match depends on more than choosing someone who teaches Physics. This helps us recommend a tutor suited to the student's actual academic priorities.

Our Standard

A Tutor Match Built Around the Student's Course

Experienced subject support

Tutors explain challenging topics clearly and support progress over time.

Preparation for real exam demands

Official specifications, exam-style questions and past papers build technique.

A considered selection process

Tutors are reviewed through interviews, teaching evaluation and approval.

Specific matching

Subject, level, qualification and exam board shape every recommendation.

Lesson Flow

What Happens In A One-to-One IB Physics Lesson?

Lessons do not need to move through every theme in sequence. The tutor can prioritise the topics currently affecting school assessments, mocks and final-exam performance.

Step 1

Review

Start with a recent test, homework task, mock or past-paper response and confirm HL or SL.

Step 2

Diagnose

Identify whether marks are being lost because of concept gaps, mathematical errors, weak modelling, poor data interpretation, experimental reasoning, explanation, or exam timing.

Step 3

Rebuild

Clarify the physics behind the mistake.

Step 4

Apply

Move into a new IB-style calculation, graph, experimental scenario or problem.

Step 5

Analyse

Review the student's reasoning and identify remaining errors.

Step 6

Reattempt

The student solves a similar problem independently.

Step 7

Set the next priority

The next lesson focuses on the highest-value weakness, keeping lessons targeted instead of simply adding more study hours.

How IB Physics is assessed (first assessment 2025)

IB Physics students sit two papers and complete one scientific investigation. Paper 1 combines multiple-choice and data-based questions, Paper 2 tests longer reasoning, and the investigation is worth 20% at both levels. HL papers are longer and cover more content: 240 teaching hours against 150 at SL.

Quick questions

FAQs About IB Physics

Helpful answers about exam boards, syllabus topics, tutor matching and lesson support.

Is the IB Physics data booklet provided in exams?

Yes. A data booklet and a calculator are allowed in both papers at SL and HL, so lessons focus on choosing the right equation, not memorising it.

How is the new IB Physics course different from the old one?

Paper 3 is gone; Paper 1 now has a data-based part (1B); options were removed; the investigation stays at 20%. Old past papers are still useful by topic, not as whole mocks.

How much does an IB Physics tutor cost?

Online IB Physics tutoring starts from $15 per hour where current pricing applies. The confirmed rate depends on the tutor, level and lesson requirements.

Do you provide both IB Physics HL and SL tutors?

Yes. Tutor matching considers whether the student studies Physics at Higher Level or Standard Level.

Can a tutor help with Paper 1A and Paper 1B?

Yes. Lessons can focus on multiple-choice accuracy, calculations, data interpretation, experimental scenarios and timed practice.

Can tutoring help with IB Physics Paper 2?

Yes. Tutors can work on multi-step calculations, extended problems, physical reasoning, graphs and data-based questions.

Can a tutor help with difficult Physics calculations?

Yes. Tutors can help students identify the correct model, select equations, organise working and solve multi-stage quantitative problems.

Can tutors help with Physics data analysis and uncertainty?

Yes. Students can receive support interpreting graphs, gradients, measurements, experimental data and uncertainty.

Can tutors help with the IB Physics Scientific Investigation?

Tutors can provide ethical guidance on research questions, methods, measurements, uncertainty, data analysis and evaluation. They do not write or complete assessed work.

Can I book short-term IB Physics tutoring before mocks or final exams?

Yes. Focused mock or final-exam preparation can be arranged depending on tutor availability.
