Tutors Chosen for Subject Fit, Teaching Fit and Course Fit

Knowledge beyond the textbook

Strong subject understanding supports demanding school and exam content.

Teaching linked to assessment

Specification points, mark schemes and exam-style questions shape preparation.

Reviewed by Combo Tutors Academy

Selection includes interviews, demonstrations and suitability checks.

Matched to the exact course

AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge students get relevant support.

Lesson Flow

From Confusion To Calm, One Lesson At A Time.

Our tutors build conceptual understanding alongside mathematical fluency — the two together are what produce A and A* grades in Physics.

Step 1

Pinpoint the gaps

We start with recent marks, confidence blockers, and the exact exam board so sessions feel personal from lesson one.

Step 2

Teach the mark scheme

Tutors connect concepts to examiner language, worked examples, and the habits that turn knowledge into marks.

Step 3

Track the lift

Parents see what changed after each session: topics covered, next steps, and the grade trajectory we are building toward.

What we cover

A Syllabus Map Students Can Actually Follow.

Break the specification into manageable topics, then build confidence from the first concept to exam-ready application.

01

Mechanics

Kinematics, projectile motion, Newton's laws, momentum, circular motion, gravitational fields, and simple harmonic motion — the largest single topic block.

02

Electricity & Circuits

Charge, current, potential difference, resistance, EMF and internal resistance, capacitors (charging/discharging), and AC circuits.

03

Waves & Quantum Physics

Wave properties, superposition, diffraction, interference, standing waves, the photoelectric effect, and wave-particle duality.

04

Fields

Gravitational, electric, and magnetic fields — including field lines, potential energy, inverse square laws, and electromagnetic induction. A major Higher-only section.

05

Thermal Physics

Kinetic theory, ideal gas laws, specific heat capacity, specific latent heat, and the first law of thermodynamics.

06

Nuclear Physics & Radioactivity

Nuclear structure, radioactive decay, half-life, binding energy, mass-energy equivalence (E=mc²), fission, and fusion.

07

Optional Topics

Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Turning Points (depending on board). We cover whichever optional topic your specification requires.

Common Blockers

Where Students Struggle And How We Fix It.

1Fields — gravitational, electric, and magnetic+

The three field topics share a common mathematical structure. We teach them together, highlighting the parallels and key differences (e.g., gravity is always attractive, electric fields can repel). Students who learn the patterns score well across all three field topics.

2Deriving and applying unfamiliar equations+

A-Level Physics papers regularly ask students to derive equations or apply them in unfamiliar contexts. We practise deriving key equations from first principles and working through novel multi-step problems, which builds the flexible thinking examiners test.

3Practical skills assessment+

The practical skills paper requires students to plan experiments, analyse data, calculate uncertainties, and evaluate results. We cover these skills systematically using real past-paper practicals and the mark scheme language each board expects.

Family trust

Why Parents Chose Combo.

A clear tutor match, a plan built around the real paper, and progress parents can follow from week to week.

✓Support that stays focused on progress
01

Handpicked tutors

We shortlist tutors who know the curriculum, teach clearly, and can coach the exact exam habits that lift marks.

Top-university academics and exam-savvy specialists.

02

Clear weekly updates

Parents see what was covered, what improved, and what needs attention next, so progress never feels vague.

Structured feedback after every lesson block.

03

A plan built around your child's paper

Sessions are matched to the student's board, tier, topic gaps, and exam timeline instead of generic subject tutoring.

Board-specific support with a measurable target grade path.

Mrs Fiona Graham, parent

AQA A-Level Physics · Edinburgh

★★★★★

“My son was stuck on the fields section for months. After four sessions building the parallels between gravitational and electric fields, it clicked completely. He got an A*.”

Charlotte B., student

Edexcel A-Level Physics · London

★★★★★

“The practical paper was the part I was most worried about. The tutor taught uncertainty calculations and evaluation technique in two sessions. I scored full marks on it.”

Quick questions

FAQs About A Level Physics

Helpful answers about exam boards, syllabus topics, tutor matching and lesson support.

Is A-Level Physics harder than A-Level Maths?

They are different types of challenge. Physics requires strong mathematical skills alongside conceptual understanding and the ability to apply both to unfamiliar problems. Students who enjoy applying maths to real-world problems typically find Physics very rewarding.

Do I need Further Maths for A-Level Physics?

Further Maths is not required but is beneficial for students heading toward Engineering, Physics, or Astrophysics at university. The overlap between Further Maths and the hardest A-Level Physics questions (particularly in SHM, fields, and circular motion) is significant.

How are practical skills assessed?

Practical skills are assessed in two ways: a school-assessed practical endorsement (separate from the grade) and questions in the written papers. Paper 3 (AQA) or equivalent specifically tests planning, data analysis, uncertainty, and evaluation. We cover all of these in sessions.

Can you help with the optional topic?

Yes — we cover all major optional topics: Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Turning Points in Physics (AQA), and Nuclear and Particle Physics. Tell us which option you are studying and we will match a specialist tutor.
