Kowloon Tong is Hong Kong's most concentrated school district — dubbed the city's "education hub" and home to the highest density of premier schools per square kilometre in Asia. IGCSE Physics candidates in Kowloon Tong cluster at Diocesan Boys' School (DBS) on the Mong Kok border, which runs a Cambridge IGCSE option alongside HKDSE; Maryknoll Convent School on Boundary Street, which offers IGCSE alongside HKDSE for its girls' cohort; and Yew Chung International School (YCIS Kowloon) on Somerset Road, which runs Cambridge IGCSE as the pre-IB DP qualification in Years 10-11. The MTR Kowloon Tong interchange (Tung Chung Line meets East Rail Line) draws students from across Hong Kong into this cluster, and proximity to City University of Hong Kong (CityU) intensifies academic-family pressure on Physics grades. Our tutors back-plan CIE 0580/0625/0610-series Physics around the 7-10 day Lunar New Year revision break, drilling past papers and examiner reports rather than generic worksheets.
Tell us what your child needs and we'll match a UK-qualified Physics specialist in Kowloon Tong within 24 hours.
Exam boards we cover
Cambridge IGCSE in Kowloon Tong is the Years 10-11 standard at YCIS Kowloon (Somerset Road) as a pre-IB DP qualification, the Cambridge option alongside HKDSE at Diocesan Boys' School (Mong Kok border) and Maryknoll Convent School (Boundary Street), and the IGCSE stream at Kingston International on Kent Road. Extended tier is required for any student progressing to A-Level Physics.
Used by Edexcel-aligned British curriculum schools in and around Kowloon Tong. Higher tier broadly comparable to Cambridge Extended, with slightly different question phrasing.
A smaller cohort of Kowloon Tong students sit Oxford AQA International GCSE — particularly those moving between UK and Hong Kong schools mid-cycle.

What we fix
How we fix it:DBS on the Mong Kok border runs HKDSE plus a Cambridge IGCSE option with internal mocks tightly clustered in January/February; AISHK on Norman Road runs Australian HSC + AP + IB DP mocks across the same window. We build a 6-8 week Physics mock-prep block of timed past papers and mark-scheme drills, matched to the exact board the student sits.
How we fix it:MTR Kowloon Tong is a major Tung Chung Line ↔ East Rail Line interchange, drawing students into the district from across HK and the New Territories. Long commutes eat into Physics revision time. All Combo Tutors lessons are online 1-to-1 in HKT — no extra travel after a full school day at DBS, La Salle, Maryknoll, AISHK or YCIS.
How we fix it:Kowloon Tong elite schools — DBS, La Salle College, Maryknoll Convent and Heep Yunn — offer HKDSE alongside Cambridge IGCSE/A-Level options. We advise Y9/Y10 families on the Physics content overlap, the EDB-recognised JUPAS vs non-JUPAS routes to HKU/CUHK/HKUST/CityU, and how each pathway maps to UCAS and Common App applications.
How we fix it:City University of Hong Kong's main campus sits at Kowloon Tong, intensifying academic pressure on local families. Students apply in parallel to CityU (JUPAS for HKDSE, non-JUPAS for IGCSE/A-Level/IB/AP), HKU, CUHK and HKUST, plus UCAS (Dec/Jan) and Common App (Nov/Jan). Our Physics tutors prep subject content alongside admissions tests (TMUA, MAT) and interview practice.
How we fix it:Kowloon Tong schools shut for 7-10 days around Lunar New Year, colliding with January mocks at DBS, La Salle, AISHK and YCIS and the Y12 IB IA submission window. We pre-load Physics content before CNY, run optional intensive sessions during the break, and resume with timed past-paper work the week schools reopen.
Hong Kong IGCSE Physics students usually sit Cambridge 0625 (or the 9-1 graded 0972) or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1. We teach the papers your child actually sits.
Lessons start from HK$120/hour, and IGCSE tutoring typically runs HK$150-350/hour; we confirm your exact rate in the free trial lesson.
We support students at Australian International School Hong Kong, Yew Chung International School and Kingston International School, and Diocesan Boys' School students taking the Cambridge IGCSE option alongside HKDSE.

Why Combo Tutors
Diocesan Boys' School runs HKDSE with a Cambridge IGCSE option — a dual-track that demands tutors who know both syllabi. Our DBS Physics tutors are matched to the exact board the student sits, drill past papers, and prep CityU/HKU non-JUPAS plus UCAS in parallel.
Australian International School Hong Kong uniquely runs the Australian HSC, AP CollegeBoard and IB DP under one roof. Our AISHK Physics tutors are College Board-certified or IB examiners matched to the chosen track, drilling MCQ/FRQ for AP and Paper 1/2/3 for IB to the official rubric.
Yew Chung International School Kowloon on Somerset Road runs Cambridge IGCSE feeding IB DP HL/SL. Our YCIS Physics tutors are IB examiners, turn around IAs inside 48 hours, and prep CityU (next door at Kowloon Tong), HKU, Oxbridge and Ivy League admissions in parallel.
Mrs Wong Mei-Ling, parent (Kowloon Tong)
IGCSE Physics HL — Australian International School Hong Kong (AISHK), Norman Road — CityU offer
My son was predicted a 6 in HL Physics at AISHK and the tutor walked him through every Paper 3 question type. He sat the May session and got a 7, plus a CityU computer science offer down the road.
Mr Suresh Iyer, Indian expat (Kowloon Tong)
IGCSE Physics — Yew Chung International School (YCIS Kowloon), Somerset Road — HKU offer
We tried two Kowloon Tong agencies before Combo Tutors. The difference was examiner-level insight on Physics mark schemes — and the tutor coordinated around the Lunar New Year break for the YCIS Kowloon mocks.
Anthony C., Diocesan Boys' School Year 13 (Kowloon Tong)
IGCSE Physics — Diocesan Boys' School (DBS), Mong Kok border — Oxford offer
Tutor knew the DBS Cambridge IGCSE option inside out — every past paper, every mark scheme. Physics jumped from a Grade 6 mock to a Grade 9 in the final, and I landed an Oxford engineering offer.

Parent of IB Student · London
My daughter was struggling with IB Mathematics HL and had almost given up hope of getting a 7. After just two months of weekly sessions with her Combo Tutors tutor, her confidence soared and she went from a predicted 4 to a final grade of 6. The personalised approach made all the difference—her tutor identified exactly where the gaps were and worked through them systematically.

Parent of A-Level Student · Manchester
My son started tutoring for A-Level Physics about three months before his exams. His tutor was incredibly patient and broke down complex topics like electromagnetic induction into simple, intuitive steps. He ended up getting an A* which we genuinely didn't think was possible. I'd recommend Combo Tutors to any parent who wants a tutor that actually cares about your child's progress.

We needed help with GCSE Science for my son who found chemistry particularly challenging. His tutor made the sessions engaging and relatable—using real-world examples that finally made reactions and bonding click for him. He improved by two grades and, more importantly, actually enjoys science now.
