What we fix

Where students lose marks in Pure 3

01

Integration

How we fix it:Choosing between parts and substitution is practised until the method is obvious from the question.

02

Differential equations

How we fix it:Students learn to separate variables, apply initial conditions and interpret the answer in context.

03

Complex numbers

How we fix it:Argand diagrams and modulus-argument form are linked, so loci questions stop feeling like a separate topic.

04

Vectors

How we fix it:Lines in three dimensions are built from the equation up, including intersections and angles.

A-Level Maths Support for Students Progressing from IGCSE in Muscat

A-Level Maths in Muscat is mostly a progression problem. Students arrive from IGCSE 0580, from Additional Mathematics 0606, or with Edexcel IAL units already banked, and the grade is usually decided by the step from Pure 1 to Pure 3, where calculus and differential equations take over from comfortable algebra. Lessons follow the Cambridge 9709 and Edexcel IAL syllabuses used across Muscat's international schools, among them British School Muscat, Muscat International School and Downe House Muscat. Students log in from Al Khuwair, Bausher, Azaiba, Madinat Sultan Qaboos and Ruwi. IAL students also have a January sitting, so resit planning for a weak unit starts from the first lesson, not after results day.

Mechanics or Statistics: different skills, different revision

Mechanics rewards clear diagrams and modelling forces correctly, while Statistics rewards reading the question closely and choosing the right distribution. A tutor plans them differently because the errors are different.

Physics students often find Mechanics overlaps usefully with A-Level Physics tutors in Muscat. If algebra is the barrier, our IGCSE Maths tutors in Muscat can rebuild the foundations first.

Grade 4 → 6
My daughter was struggling with IB Mathematics HL and had almost given up hope of getting a 7. After just two months of weekly sessions with her Combo Tutors tutor, her confidence soared and she went from a predicted 4 to a final grade of 6. The personalised approach made all the difference—her tutor identified exactly where the gaps were and worked through them systematically.

B → A*
My son started tutoring for A-Level Physics about three months before his exams. His tutor was incredibly patient and broke down complex topics like electromagnetic induction into simple, intuitive steps. He ended up getting an A* which we genuinely didn't think was possible. I'd recommend Combo Tutors to any parent who wants a tutor that actually cares about your child's progress.

We needed help with GCSE Science for my son who found chemistry particularly challenging. His tutor made the sessions engaging and relatable—using real-world examples that finally made reactions and bonding click for him. He improved by two grades and, more importantly, actually enjoys science now.

With Edexcel International A-Level, yes: units are sat separately in January, June or October. Cambridge 9709 offers papers in the June and November series. The tutor plans resit timing around the series your school enters.
